I do it for the future. I do this because we need to care more than ever for the health and welfare of our children. These golden moments are lined in an infant’s life with a promise of a healthy tomorrow. I want to help parents find the best ways to a healthy start. This choice is an environmental path that leaves out chemicals and pesticides and begins the day baby is born. Helping our customers understand that the porous skin of a baby, in its first year, is most susceptible to all forms of toxins and chemicals. Once you see the designs and styles that are available in organic fashion, the fun begins in selecting healthy and safe clothing.
I have designed these clothes and I have made a commitment to working and developing a sustainable fashion line for babies newborn through 24 months. In my four-year research of organic cotton, I have been able to design styles that are the essentials in baby’s first year. Working with local Los Angeles manufacturers and suppliers has made this story even more compelling. Watching the commitment to produce clothes cleanly and with sustainable materials, by people who want to make a difference, is an inspiration and it motivates me to work hard for the customers who buy our products. My vision for Starting Green is to eventually develop larger sizes for children, newborn through 4 years, but for now, my concentration is expanding the new parent’s options for organic fashion for babies in their first year.
No sweatshop, child, or under waged laborer is involved in any of the creation of our clothes. Each shirt, dress, one peace, any article of clothing we manufacture, is made with 100% organic cotton fabric, organic cotton cloth tape, trim, twill, and natural buttons. For our customers, we are committed to helping them be a better consumer. We want to nurture a baby’s new life with a change towards organic fashion that can insure health and give parents peace of mind. Marilyn Scott was born and raised in Arcadia, California. A successful recording artist as a pop, adult contemporary and jazz vocalist, she has 11 albums to her credit, including her latest jazz disc, "Every Time We Say Goodbye". She is the only vocalist in the history of Billboard magazine to have two different individual albums charting on the Contemporary Jazz and Traditional Jazz charts simultaneously. An avid environmentalist, she was inspired to create Starting Green after the birth of her niece, Marlayna and nephew, Wyatt. She lives in Manhattan Beach, CA.
